thank you Aunty Michelle for the idea

This find of 50 foot crystal rods the size of mature pine trees is astounding….google the title and it’s all there for you to indulge in.
Mining in Chihuahua, Mexico, In what has proved to be the discovery of the largest known crystals on earth, work is underway to document and preserve this historic find. While some minor damage has already occurred in the primary cave and a secondary cavern, called Cave of Dreams, iron doors have been installed by the Peñoles company to prevent damage to the giant, magnificent crystals.

In the two caverns we can find the biggest selenita crystals (the purest gypsum) in the world, being a mineral composed of calcium sulfate hydrate (CaSO4•2H2O) it quite often forms compact and lucid laminate aggregations. The gypsum sometimes presents itself in the shape of giant crystals with perfect laminate exfoliation, and amazing reflectivity, thus the name of Selenita. The Naica caves are the greatest expression of magnitude and beauty in the world.

Reaching lengths of up to 14 meters. Their transparency and shine, in enormous and unique figures move and captivate scientists and miners. Mining for minerals nearby, pumping water out to aid in mining had lead to this discovery. Usally submerged in hot high mineral water, these gigantic crystals could be 30 million years old….!

Its temperature of 50 º and humidity of 100 % could kill anyone. Due to these conditions it is an unexplored cave which would require special gear and techniques to allow researchers to remain in it for more than 8 minutes, after which, survival is currently impossible, making its access strictly restricted to anyone but the Speleoresearch & Films technicians for the development of the “Naica crystals project

It´s difficult to imagine such an important geographic discovery in the latest years, only compared with the Nile river fountains.
I think these were discovered in 2000 sometime, but have never heard of it. Had you?
